A Local's Neighborhood
I'm sure I'll catch hell for this, but I call everything from Broadway to the Parish Line below S. Claiborne "Carrollton". Within those boundaries there are many smaller pockets to explore. The St. Charles Streetcar ends, begins, and barrels through the neighborhood along Carrollton Ave. It's home to both Oak and Maple St. commercial corridors with fabulous bike access to both. Carrollton is a quintessential New Orleans neighborhood to me. It's got lots of beautiful old architecture and it's home to many of my favorite scenes and eats: like the Maple Leaf Bar, the Satsuma BLT sandwich I eat once a week, and the quite upstairs workspace at Rue de la Course. You'll find me here often and at all times of day or night.
Palmer Park is a nearly 6acre green space along Carrollton Avenue accessible by the St. Charles Streetcar line. It's a beautiful place to relax or take the kids to the playground. It's also home to a fabulous Arts Market, which is held every last Saturday of the month. Check it out and shop local.
Live Oak Cafe
Breakfast is my favorite time of day and Live Oak Cafe is my weekend jam. Live music all the time, great food, friendly people, what else can I say. It's low key and always good. Sometimes they close randomly in the summer, so check before you go. But Order the Huevos Rancheros add avocado, you won't be disappointed.
